Lucy Electric, a global leader in medium voltage and secondary power distribution solutions, has today opened its Thailand manufacturing plant, enabling the company to significantly expand operations into the ASEAN market.
Lucy Electric has invested 400MB (equivalent to over £7m) into the plant, which will be the first plant to wholly manufacture and build Ring Main Units in Thailand. Over 180 people will be employed at the plant, which will produce between 15,000 – 25,000 bespoke products every year.
The Managing Director of Lucy Electric (Thailand) Limited, Carl Sellick said Thailand was the perfect location for its new manufacturing plant.
“Thailand was chosen as Lucy’s ASEAN hub due to its geographic location, its growing economy and its highly skilled workforce. This will enable Lucy Electric to supply customers such as utilities in the South East Asia regions, the Middle East and China. These regions and countries are all experiencing significant economic and industrial growth and this naturally will require upgrades to local electrical distribution infrastructure.”
“Our products enable our customers to deliver safe and reliable power to homes and businesses worldwide. Our innovative medium voltage switchgear products are manufactured to the highest specification to meet the needs of our customers in this rapidly growing region and our after-sale customer service and training programs are industry leading.”
“Highly skilled local workers will produce the latest technologies in our state-of-the-art factory with productivity levels and services comparable with other Lucy Electric global production facilities. This includes the production of an extensive range of high performance, medium and low voltage switchgear suitable for a wide variety of industrial and commercial applications at our new plant.”
90% of the parts manufactured at the plant will be exported for use in markets including China, the Middle East, and ASEAN nations such as Vietnam, Philippines and Myanmar. The remaining products will be used domestically in Thailand.
Lucy Electric currently covers 70% of the local medium voltage market, and supports a large range of clients in the utilities sector such as Metropolitan Electricity Authority and the Provincial Electricity Authority, in Thailand, as well as other utilities across the ASEAN region such as Tana Ga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in Malaysia, SP Powerasset and Water Authority and Metro Manila LRT in the Philippines.
